Remember to Ask for a Payslip!
Publicerad 2024-12-06
A payslip shows exactly what you earn and what is deducted. Here's why you should always ask for one.
Do you get a payslip every month? If not – ask for one! It's more important than you might think.
What is a payslip?
A payslip is a document that shows exactly how your salary is calculated. It should include:
- Your gross salary (before tax)
- Tax deductions
- Your net salary (what you receive)
- Hours worked and any overtime
- Vacation pay
- Any additions or deductions
Is there a legal requirement?
Actually, there is no direct legal requirement for employers to issue payslips in Sweden. However:
- If your company has a collective agreement, there is often a requirement for it
- It is considered good practice in the workplace
- The employer must report what tax deductions have been made
Why is it important?
The payslip is your proof that the employer has deducted and paid your tax. If something goes wrong and the tax hasn't been paid, the Swedish Tax Agency can demand you pay the money – if you can't show your payslips.
It also helps you to:
- Verify that you received the correct salary
- See that vacation pay is being paid
- Discover any potential errors
Tips
Save all your payslips! Request them every month and archive them digitally. It can save you a lot of problems in the future.
